COMMUNITY NEWS
Acknowledgement of Country
We acknowledge the traditional owners, the Gunditjmara people, on whose land we learn, work and play. We recognise their continuing connection to land, waters and culture. We pay our respects to their elders- past, present and emerging believing that we can walk together for a better future.
Principal's Report
I hope everyone had a relaxing and enjoyable long weekend and managed to stay out of the heat if you needed. It was great to see so many visitors and locals enjoying our beautiful town and amazing beaches. Our Portland community has so much to offer.
This Saturday we have the Relay for Life at the Portland Soccer Field. This is a great community event that we support as a school. There have been many people within our school community that have been touched by cancer in some way or another. Our current fundraising effort is just over $1200 and we are grateful for anyone who has contributed in any way. There is still a chance to donate (please see the link later in this newsletter). We would love to see as many members of our school community supporting us and joining in on the day. A note will be sent home this week with students. We ask anyone who is planning on joining us on the day to register for our team using the same link as mentioned above. We hope to see you there.
Thank you to those families who have completed the Wellbeing Barometer survey on SCHOOLTV. The Wellbeing Barometer survey is still open for participation. The more responses received, the more meaningful the data and outcomes will be.
We hope our Foundation and Year 1/2 students had a great time at the family Maths night last Thursday. Thank you to our teachers who gave up their time to host a fantastic night of fun and engaging maths activities.
Amelia Burns in Year 2 is currently growing her hair in order to cut it off for charity. If any families would like to donate please use this link. https://hairwithheart.variety.
This week our Year 3 and 5 students will begin their NAPLAN assessments. We wish them all the best and know that their teachers have prepared them well over the years.
RESPECT YOURSELF, RESPECT OTHERS & RESPECT YOUR ENVIRONMENT!
Regards
Jamie

There is no need to order just turn up at the window with your $1 and enjoy a toasty warm hot cross bun. Available until stocks run out.
Easter Egg Raffle Donations
As we near the end of term and the Easter holidays it is time for our annual Easter raffle. Books of tickets will be sent hope this week with students.
We are asking families, if you can, to donate something Easter themed (Easter eggs, chocolate, toys, colouring books or craft activities) to make up our prizes for this raffle.
The more donations we get the more prizes that we can have. A donation box will be located in the foyer.

CONGRATULATIONS TO THESE STUDENTS FOR BEING AN AMAZING MEMBER OF YOUR CLASS AND OUR SCHOOL!
NAPLAN Assessments
The NAPLAN testing window opens on Wednesday for our Year 3 and 5 students. The students have been well prepared by their teachers and while it is important that the children do their best we understand that this is one assessment piece in the larger picture of your child's education. We wish all our participating students good luck.
What does NAPLAN assess?
NAPLAN assesses literacy and numeracy skills that students are learning through their regular school
curriculum.
Students sit assessments in writing, reading, conventions of language (spelling, grammar and punctuation) and numeracy. The questions assess content linked to the Australian Curriculum: English and Mathematics.
All government and non-government education authorities contribute to the development of NAPLAN
test materials. The below flier was sent out to families of Year 3 and Year 5 students earlier on this year.
To find out more about NAPLAN, visit nap.edu.au.
The Physical Education and Sport Report.
Wow!! What a busy term it has been for our All Saints Sporting Students!!!
Physical Education
Thus far we have been completing Athletics in the lead up to our Athletics Carnival Monday March 25. I
have been super impressed with our students and how well they have been applying themselves in class.
The progression of our students has been amazing and I am looking forward to our students showcasing
their ability on this day.
Swimming
Outside of the school curriculum, we have already attended school swim trials and district and division swim carnivals in both Portland and Warrnambool. I have been super proud of all of our student’s efforts in the pool. We should particularly be proud of Nevaeh Stephens, Bonnie Shipard and Vossie Vosloo who were crowned individual champions at our District Swim Carnival. Bonnie received a sixth place overall at the Division Carnival Warrnambool and Vossie a second! Both Bonnie and Vossie have now qualified to
compete at the Regional Swim Carnival in Horsham Friday March 22. We are super proud of these two
and we wish them all the best.
Australian Rules Football
Earlier this year our Grade Four students were lucky to attend a football clinic with my favourite team,
the Geelong Cats! In attendance were players such as Jeremy Cameron and Mitch Duncan. It was
certainly a highlight for the kids (and myself!) and we had an awesome day.
Any students who wish to play AFL, teams such as Heathmere (where I coach), Tyrendarra, Westerns
and Portland are looking for players to fill spots in Auskick, Under 11, Under 12, Under 14, Under 17 and
Under 18. Students and Parents wishing to play or participate in Auskick at Heathmere are welcome to
speak to me.
Summer Series Golf and Tennis
Congratulations to our students who participated in our District Golf and Tennis competitions. We are
very proud of the sportsmanship and effort demonstrated on this day. We are very grateful to our
parents who assisted, particularly Cameron McCallum who offered a coaching afternoon the day before
the competition. Huge thanks to the Portland Golf Club, who were very welcoming and generous with
their support. In the tennis, Sabra Campbell was very close to making the final and Penelope Copley took
out the girls golf event, even scoring a 5 on one hole! Well done girls and go All Saints!!! Penelope has
directly qualified for the next level of competition at Warrnambool. I am waiting on more information,
however there may be more qualifiers for this tournament.
Community Sport
– State Series BMX
Finally, well done to all of students who competed locally in a leg of the state series BMX competition.
From all reports, our students competed very successfully. Congratulations to Atley Sutton, Ed Eichler,
Theo Donovan, Emmy and Fletcher Bicknell.
If any parents have any community sport news/achievements they would like to pass on, please send
them to pwhite@asportland.catholic.edu.au

School Photos
School photo day will be Monday 22nd April. Photo ordering forms will be sent out next week with each form being specific to your child, with its own unique code. We ask that orders are placed online and forms returned to school by Wednesday 27th March as it has been our experience that forms with links to student's photo ordering tend to get lost over the school holidays.
Family photo forms will be available from the school office.
If you are not purchasing photos this year, please return your form with NOT REQUIRED.
Separated families are able to use the same Shootkey code to order photos. However, please state clearly if the order is for Mum or Dad. If you require a separate form for your family please let the office know at admin@asportland.catholic.edu.au or call 5523 3654.

In a post-pandemic world, with global unrest, teacher shortages, and changing social, ecclesial, and educational contexts and challenges, Principals are challenged to dig deeper than ever before for the strength to lead their communities.
