COMMUNITY NEWS
Acknowledgement of Country
We acknowledge the traditional owners, the Gunditjmara people, on whose land we learn, work and play. We recognise their continuing connection to land, waters and culture. We pay our respects to their elders- past, present and emerging believing that we can walk together for a better future.
Principal's Message
We have made it to the end of a very busy term and I am very proud of all that we have been able to achieve in this past nine weeks.
Our Foundation students have completed their first term full of lots of wonderful learning and opportunities to grow. Across the other year levels our students and teachers have been just as busy. Our Year 5/6s and Year 4s have been on their camps to Melbourne and Dunkeld respectively. Our year 3 and 5 students have participated in NAPLAN and have done a great job. I have been extremely pleased with how well all of the students have engaged in the learning opportunities that they have been presented with in class across the school. With such a great start to the year I am looking forward to seeing what the remainder of the year will bring.
Last week I had the privilege of attending the VACPSP Conference in Lorne. This was a great opportunity to network with other Catholic school principals from across Victoria and listen to some amazing speakers.
As we enter the season of Easter I encourage people to spend some time thinking of how we can be of service to others. This is a great opportunity for us to think about the events of Holy Week and Easter with the death and resurrection of Jesus.
Congratulations to Miss O'Keefe and Cameron McCallum (SAC member and dad of Archie and Rose) who were victorious in their tennis grand final over the weekend.
I wish all our students and their families a happy and safe Easter break and look forward to hearing about your holiday adventures next term. Enjoy the break!
RESPECT YOURSELF, RESPECT OTHERS & RESPECT YOUR ENVIRONMENT!
Regards
Jamie

CONGRATULATIONS TO THESE STUDENTS FOR BEING AN AMAZING MEMBER OF YOUR CLASS AND OUR SCHOOL!
From the Indonesian Room
Salam semuanya,
After a busy start to the year, with the relocation of the Indonesian room, our students have adapted smoothly and settled in well to their new learning environment.
While the room is fully functional and bears the familiar ambience of the Indo room, we are still in the process of refining some finer details to create a Balinese-styled space.
In the Indonesian room, our Foundation students have embarked on their Indonesian learning journey under the guidance of Mrs. Levings. They are mastering basic greetings, learning how to introduce themselves (Nama saya…) and counting numbers up to five. Additionally, they enjoy joining in singing Head, shoulders, knees and toes in Indonesian.
For Grades 1 and 2 students, the focus has been on "My Family - Keluarga saya." They have been introduced to family-related vocabulary, including "Mum" (Ibu) and "Dad" (Bapak). Through engaging activities such as singing Bibitsku songs and Indonesian versions of popular tunes like "Siapa namamu?" (What is your name?) and "Bayi Hiu" (Baby Shark), they've been enjoying their learning journey. They also enjoyed the activity of labelling members of the Baby Shark family and were treated to a delightful rendition of Baby Shark by Rosie and her music students.
In Grades 3 and 4, our current focus is on classrooms. We are examining the distinctions between Indonesian and Australian classrooms, identifying classroom objects, practising instructional phrases, and following class directions in Indonesian.
Meanwhile, our 5th and 6th graders are immersed in a semester-long unit titled "Tentang Saya" (All about Me!), which explores various personal aspects ranging from names and ages to hobbies, likes and dislikes. Their assessment will involve creating a PowerPoint presentation about themselves.
In addition to these core topics, we have incorporated cultural learning experiences such as Sinking Jakarta, Hari Nyepi (Balinese Day of Silence), and Ramadan into our curriculum. I look forward to exploring other cultural topics based on student interests, as suggested in the "saya ingin tahu" (I want to know) box.
Salam hangat,
(Mrs) Bu Kendl Roberts

School Athletic Sports - Monday 25th March
Congratulations to everyone in our school for your wonderful enthusiam and participation at our Athletics Sports day today. It was a fantastic day and we had lots of parents support across the whole day.
Special thanks must go to Nigel and Chris for cooking all of our sausages for lunch and to Loryn, Joanna & Tonaya for serving our sausages. We even had a special guest appearance from Mrs Murrell to sell our icy poles. Without your assistance it is not possible to have sausages and icy poles to enjoy on this day.
Thanks to all our amazing staff for walking around with the children and for running each of the events. These days do not happen withour your dedication. Thanks to Miss O'Keefe and Mr White for all of your organisation.
Well done to all of our House Leaders on your organisation throughout the day and to our winning leaders on your speeches when accepting trophies. You all spoke very well. and should be proud of yourselves and more importantly proud of your teams.
It was a great day for everyone.

School Photos
School photo day will be Monday 22nd April. Photo ordering forms have been given out, with each form being specific to your child with its own unique code. We ask that orders are placed online and forms returned to school by Thursday 28th March as it has been our experience that forms with links to student's photo ordering tend to get lost over the school holidays.
Family photo forms will be available from the school office.
If you are not purchasing photos this year, please return your form with NOT REQUIRED.
Separated families are able to use the same Shootkey code to order photos. However, please state clearly if the order is for Mum or Dad. If you require a separate form for your family please let the office know at admin@asportland.catholic.edu.au or call 5523 3654.
REMEMBER: all forms are to be returned to the office - even if you are not purchasing photos

VACPSP Conference in Lorne
Last week I had the privilege of attending the VACPSP (Victorian Association of Catholic Primary School Principals) Conference in Lorne. This was a great opportunity to network with other Catholic school principals from across Victoria. It was great to be able to share the wonderful things that we are doing to support and encourage our students here at All Saints. There were some amazing guest speakers who spoke about the conference theme 'with STRENGTH'. To listen to some of their stories and the challenges that they have overcome and the work that they currently undertake was both heart warming and inspiring. I encourage you to Google some of these people and check out their stories.

In this edition of SchoolTV - FRIENDSHIP & BELONGING
Learning how to make new friends and keep them involves a number of skills every young person needs to understand and develop. For some these skills will come very naturally, allowing them to easily move between different friendship groups, sharing their experiences and opening up to new people. For others, this can be much harder to navigate. Belonging to a group that is like-minded with similar interests is highly beneficial to a young person’s wellbeing. It gives them a sense of security helping them feel valued which in turn builds their confidence.
Positive friendships are an important part of the journey to adulthood. Adult carers can support their child or teenager by providing guidance in the many social and emotional skills required for a healthy relationship. This will help them to obtain, retain and maintain friendships. However, not all friendship are regarded as positive. Sometimes young people develop negative or toxic friendships. Therefore it is also important for them to learn how to identify, avoid or deal with such a friendship.
In this edition of SchoolTV, adult carers can learn how to support their young person’s friendship so that they experience a sense of belonging.
We hope you take time to reflect on the information offered in this edition of SchoolTV and we always welcome your feedback. If you have any concerns about your child, please contact the school counsellor for further information or seek medical or professional help.
