COMMUNITY NEWS
Acknowledgement of Country
We acknowledge the traditional owners, the Gunditjmara people, on whose land we learn, work and play. We recognise their continuing connection to land, waters and culture. We pay our respects to their elders- past, present and emerging believing that we can walk together for a better future.
Principal's Message
We hope that everyone enjoyed the extra day off that the King's Birthday Long Weekend presented us. We have just 3 weeks left in what has been a very busy term.
Congratulations to our students who participated in the Sacrament of First Eucharist last weekend. It was wonderful to be able to celebrate this sacrament with their families and members of the parish community.
We take a moment to think about our teachers and students who are right in the middle of reporting time. This means finalsing units of work and assessment for our students and analysing data and student outcomes for our teachers. School reports will go home in the last week of term.
I would just like to make families aware of our Student Free Days that are coming up in term 3. Some of these dates ahve only recently been added to the calendar as we were awaiting confirmation from our presenters. There will be no supervision for children on any of the dates listed later in this newsletter.
Well done to our Winter Series teams from Year 5/6 who represented All Saints with great respect, pride and sportsmanship in our District competition on Friday May 31. Congratulations to Mrs Silva, Kelly and our netball team who were successful at local level and then made it through to Division Winter Series in Warrnambool last Friday. From all reports they had a great day.
As we come closer to the end of term we remember that our normal school rules and expectations apply. We encourage all students to finish the term strongly and with respect for others. Sometimes we need to work a little harder to achieve this especially when we are tired and weary at the end of term.
RESPECT YOURSELF, RESPECT OTHERS & RESPECT YOUR ENVIRONMENT!
Regards
Jamie

First Eucharist 2024
Congratulations to Ilaria, Cassie, Althea, Ivy and Payton who received in the Sacrament of First Eucharist at mass on Saturday June 1. As fully initiated members they can now participate in the liturgy of the Eucharist by receiving the bread and wine during mass. Well done on this achievement.
The Parable of the Mustard Seed- Mark 4:26-34
Jesus said: "What is God's kingdom like?
What story can I use to explain it?
It is like what happens when a mustard seed is planted in the ground.
It is the smallest seed in all the world.
But once it is planted,
it grows larger than any garden plant.
It even puts out branches that are big enough for birds to nest in its shade."
Jesus used many other stories when he spoke to the people,
and he taught them as much as they could understand.
He did not tell them anything without using stories.
But when he was alone with his disciples,
he explained everything to them.
In the story of the mustard seed, Jesus is explaining what the kingdom of God is like.
Jesus says the kingdom of God is like a small, small seed growing into a very large tree.
From little things, big things grow. A small thing like a smile can bring joy and friendship to someone
who is sad. When these small, kind actions spread throughout the world, God’s kingdom grows!
Congratulations
Hamilton Eisteddfod
Congratulations to Summer Chow in Year 6 who recently particiapted in the 60th Annual Hamilton Eisteddfod. Summer participated in the piano and string categories.
We are very thrilled to announce that Summer was awarded FIRST prize for her work on the piano and FIRST place in the string category where she played the cello. Summer also performed a duet with her younger sister Sunnie, in Foundation, on the cello and they received an amazing score of 70% for this duet.
Summer said she was very excited to perform but was more nervous with her piano performance as the audience was much bigger. It was a very enjoyable experience especially the duet with her little sister.

Wearing correct school uniform
We have had many students over the past few weeks wearing the incorrect school uniform with no excuse or reason. We are asking families to support us in checking that your children are wearing their correct school uniform on the appropriate days when they leave home in the morning. If your child is out of uniform for any reason we ask that you send a note to the teacher or message on dojo.
Some of the issues that we are finding are listed below.
Children wearing:
- sports uniform when it is not their allocated day
- black leggings or tacksuit pants with normal school uniform
- rugby/sports jumper with normal uniform
- normal uniform on sports uniform days
- a mixture of normal uniform and sports uniform
- clothing that is not part of our school uniform
- runners (non black shoes) with normal school uniform.
I have included some photos of our school uniform from our website. These photos are also on display in our school foyer.
I have also asked teachers and staff to monitor uniform in their classrooms and contact families if children are regularly wearing incorrect uniform without notification.
If you have any issues with obtaining uniform items please contact us at school. We have a second hand uniform cupboard at school and also have access to some uniforms that have been donated by generous families.
Thank you for supporting us with this matter.

If your child is unwell...
As our weather at the moment is very inconsistent there seems to be some sickness in the community. We currently have a large number of students and staff away due to various illnesses and we hope they are all feeling better soon. We have also sent quite a number of students home from school who are presenting to sick bay throughout the day.
We are asking families to assist us in making sure our school community stays safe and well by keeping your children at home if they are unwell, especially if they have cold and flu or Covid symptoms.

Learning and Teaching
From the 5/6 Classrooms
In recognition of Reconciliation Week and the theme “Now More Than Ever”, the Year 5/6 Pod researched indigenous symbols and their meanings to tell a story. Students looked at different types of indigenous art and sporting jerseys to help them create their own story of reconciliation, coming together, healing and the future. Students created their indigenous styled designs on special scratch paper and also used Australian animals to show their creations.

Winter Series Reports
Soccer- At Winter Series on Friday the soccer team all did an amazing job representing the school. We were all so excited to begin our first game of the day against south. It was really hard in the rain and hail but we came out on top. We had some great plays but lost against Palmer and Rurals. Fortunately we won against StJohns and Bundarra putting us in the semis against Rurals. It was a great game but sadly we lost coming 3rd overall. It was a great day and we all played amazing. By Charlie

We played 3 more games afterwards, winning 1 of them. After that, we watched South and North play a close game in the finals and eventually South pulled away with the win. We packed our bags and listened to see who was awarded the MVP. Congratulations to Jida Kanoa for winning the MVP. Overall it was a great day and we were so happy we had the opportunity to play footy.

Community Engagement
Thank you to any families from our All Saints community who made a contribution to the United Way Glenelg Mega Tin Food Chain at Woolworths last weekend. This was a very successful community event that collected canned foods to add to the Little Free Pantry boxes that are located around town.
We encourage any familes who can to donate supplies to these pantries- there is one located at Bundarra. We also encourage any families who need support to utilise these facilities and United Way Glenelg for support.

In this edition of SchoolTV - SCHOOL REFUSAL
School refusal, sometimes called school avoidance or school phobia, is not uncommon. It is different to ‘wagging’ or truancy and is often related to worry or anxiety-related issues about going to school. School refusal may start gradually or happen suddenly. Although it is normal for a child to occasionally miss a day of school, parents should only be concerned if a child regularly complains about feeling sick or often asks to stay home due to minor physical complaints.
School refusal is a complex issue as there is rarely a single cause. It affects children of all ages across primary and secondary levels. It can often occur during times of transition at school. More recently, the Coronavirus pandemic has disrupted the educational experience of all students, affecting some more than others. Dealing with a school refusal child can affect the whole family, adding pressure to an already challenging time. School refusal is not considered a formal psychiatric diagnosis. It’s a name given to an emotional and/or behavioural problem.
In this edition of SchoolTV, adult carers will learn how best to approach this issue and work towards a solution.
We hope you take time to reflect on the information offered in this edition of SchoolTV and we always welcome your feedback. If you have any concerns about your child, please contact the school counsellor for further information or seek medical or professional help.

Praying With Children
Praying with Children resources offer an insight into the scripture readings from mass on the weekend. It is a wonderful opportunity for families to discuss the Gospel stories and complete some related activities if they wish.
