COMMUNITY NEWS
Acknowledgement of Country
We acknowledge the traditional owners, the Gunditjmara people, on whose land we learn, work and play. We recognise their continuing connection to land, waters and culture. We pay our respects to their elders- past, present and emerging believing that we can walk together for a better future.
Principal's Message
What a wonderful week we had last week celebrating Book Week. The theme was 'Reading is Magic' and what a magical time we had. We had local author, Olivia Coates, come and share her talent and expertise with our Foundation to Year 4 students. Josh Reid from Portland Aluminium continued their engagement with schools during Book Week when he came to read his favourite stories to our 1/2 classes. After lots of wonderful activities in the classroom throughout the week we finished our Book Week celebration with our parade on Friday. Thank you to all our children and families for the effort that goes into supporting these days.
Our staff had a very informative and productive professional learning day last Tuesday in Warrnambool. We continued our journey along the Structured Literacy- Explicit Instruction path with lots of reassurance that we are making great progress and implementing components of this well into our classrooms as we continue to learn more.
This week we wish our school choir and senior band all the best as they participate in the Music Festival on Wednesday night. Thanks to Rosie and Mrs. Silva for the work that you have done to prepare these students. Good luck everyone.
This Friday we welcome our fathers and special people for our Father's Day Breakfast from 8:00am - 8:50am. Remember to wear the colours of your favourite sports team. We wish all our Fathers, and those who play the role of Father figure in the lives of our students, a special day on Sunday.
RESPECT YOURSELF, RESPECT OTHERS & RESPECT YOUR ENVIRONMENT!
Regards
Jamie

School Bus Travel Alteration- Term 3
NOTE: it is important that all students are aware of their end of day travel arrangements.
We will be relying on the PAM bus lists to determine who gets on the bus or not.
Please note that if your child is listed but not getting on the bus, the bus gets held up until we find out where they are and if they have been picked up already. Alternative, if you do not have them set up to take the bus on a certain day and forget to add them, they will miss the bus as they won't be on the list and we can't be sure they are meant to take the bus home.
You can re-enter the Transport Passes section of PAM and see what is listed for the bus for your child. Their transport for the day (or future date if needed) is listed under Actual Transport. Please ignore the 'no transport scheduled/needed' line as this is being removed by the PAM IT team and is confusing.
If you have no busses listed for the current day (or selected future date) you will just have the option to "+Add" a bus for this day. If they are currently listed on the bus and you wish to remove them you simply "-Remove" for the relevant day.
If you wish to make a change to the regular schedule that has been created, please let the office know.
PLEASE ENSURE YOU CHILD KNOWS IF THEY ARE ON THE BUS OR NOT, AND THAT PAM REFLECTS THIS. If there is a change to the child's expected home routine please call the office and we will let them know. Any changes to PAM after 2pm must come through the office.

DARI RUMAH INDONESIA- FROM THE INDONESIAN ROOM
Selamat!
Last week, we celebrated Indonesia Week as part of Indonesia's Independence Day which falls on 17th August.
All the special classes had an Indonesian theme.
The Indonesian room was full of red and white decorations and the smell of traditional street foods such as grade 3/4 ‘s Mie Goreng, and grade 5/6 ‘s Martabak Manis, filled the air.
The grade 1/2 children made and decorated headbands for the red and white dress-up day and tasted little biscuits topped with meringue called “kue monas,” another traditional street food.
The Foundation children made red and white decorated windsocks and had fun getting them to fly.
During science, the students continued their term 3 biology focus by learning about animals native to Indonesia. Grades 1 - 6 learned that Komodo dragons are the largest lizards in the world, growing over 3m in length!
In the art room Grade 1/2, students learnt about the endangered Sumatran elephant before creating an artistic shiny foil elephant of their own.
Grade 3/4s made colourful Indonesian masks, and the Grade 5/6s created artworks of people wearing traditional Indonesian dress.
In PE the students had a wonderful time playing traditional Independence day games including Egg and spoon relay, Rock hopping over Rice paddies, rock Hopping over Rocks, Paddling a surfboard (because Indonesia is probably the world's most popular destination for surfing) and Potato sack racing.
What a wonderful week of fun Indonesian-themed activities our students enjoyed!

Staff - the Right to Disconnect
The Fair Work Act 2009, was recently updated to include provisions that give employees the right to disconnect from communication received outside of their designated working hours. This new rule takes effect from 26 August 2024. For schools, this includes communication from parents, students, colleagues, or others within the school community.
Staff access their work emails normally between 8:00 am – 4.30 pm when possible and will endeavour to respond to emails within 24-48 hours. This applies to other forms of communication such as Class Dojo. Staff are not expected to respond in this time frame during weekends, public holidays, and, for teaching staff during term breaks.
We ask all members of the school community to be aware of this new provision and to restrict communication with school staff to school working hours. If you communicate outside of these hours, please be aware staff may choose to but are not expected to respond outside their work hours.

A Special Report: Celebrating Father’s Day
For many years now, the role of fathers has changed and evolved. During the industrial revolution, fathers were often considered detached and distant due to working long hours in factories. However, today things have changed dramatically with many dads being celebrated for being sensitive, caring and more hands-on.
Recent studies have shown that children benefit greatly from having fathers who are present and interacting in everyday activities. This has transformed the understanding of how fathers shape children’s lives from the start, challenging conventional ideas of parenthood and gender.
Research also suggests that fathers influence their sons and daughters in different ways, which is especially true during their transition to adolescence. Engaging in regular physical activities can play a key role in influencing children to learn self-control, face challenges, regulate emotions and take manageable risks.
In this Special Report, fathers will learn about the positive impact they can have on their child’s mental health and wellbeing, whilst also ensuring they indulge in a little self-care.
We hope you take time to reflect on the information offered in this Special Report, and as always, we welcome your feedback.
If you do have any concerns about the wellbeing of your child, please contact the school for further information or seek medical or professional help.

Praying With Children
Praying with Children resources offer an insight into the scripture readings from mass on the weekend. It is a wonderful opportunity for families to discuss the Gospel stories and complete some related activities if they wish.
