Acknowledgement of Country
We acknowledge the traditional owners, the Gunditjmara people, on whose land we learn, work and play. We recognise their continuing connection to land, waters and culture. We pay our respects to their elders- past, present and emerging believing that we can walk together for a better future.
Principal's Report
What a busy time of year it is. At school we have had visiting performers and authors, our choir and band preparing for the music festival, students attending the Science games day and all classes are very enthusiastic about their concert items for our upcoming school concert. That is not to mention all of the wonderful learning and teaching that has been happening. These things are only the school events. It doesn't take into account all of the activities families have going on at home too.
Last Thursday we celebrated Indonesian Independence Day with a red and white dress up day. All students participated in Indonesian activities in specialist classes over the week. Then on Friday we participated in the National Day of Action Against Bullying nad Violence with classes completing activities from 'Bullying, No Way!' Miss Punton's foundation class even did an anti-bullying rap and dance at their assembly on Friday.
It was great to see so many fantastic costumes for our Book Week dress up day today. Thank you to all our families for going to so much effort and supporting such events in our school. Miss O'Keefe's resemblance to Miss Trunchbull from Matilda was quite accurate and a little bit too good to be honest.
We continue to pray for Ivy Donovan, Giro Gavino, Cassie Vecchio, Althea Howman, Ilaria Toohey and Payton Buchner as they prepare for the Sacrament of Confirmation.
I hope that everyone is able to stay warm and dry, especially with the recent weather wea have been having. How was the hail last week?
Regards
Jamie
Hail at school last week.

Indonesian Independence Day
It was great to see so many children dress to celebrate Inonesia's Independence Day on Thursday August 17th . Students participated in various activities in their Specialist classes. In Indonesian the 3/4s and 5/6s indulged in some Dadar Gulung - sticky coconut pancakes.... yum ! The foundations and 1/2 classes made some traditional windsocks and had fun seeing if they would fly. All in all, it has been a fun and celebratory week!
Indonesian Independence Day Activities
Indonesian Independence Day activities in Art
In ‘The Arts’ last week, we celebrated Indonesian art.
The foundation students did sponge painting of Indonesian elephants and added exotic jewels to finish their artwork. Very bright and colourful!
The 1/2s made some special Indonesian puppets, practising their careful colouring and accurate cutting skills.
The 3/4s worked in pairs to create some Indonesian characters. They were given a template and had to colour their characters very carefully, the template was very intricate, with lots of small sections.
The 5/6s worked super fast on wooden, circular disks to create Indonesian paintings, in just one lesson!. They also worked in pairs and seeing them all work collaboratively and so creatively made me very proud.
Seni itu luar biasa!

We will hold a matinee performance on Thursday September 7 from 12:00pm until 2:30pm. There will also be a night time show commencing at 6:00pm. It will be the same performance at both sessions. The matinee is a great opportunity for elderly grandparents, younger siblings who need to go to bed early, people with mobility issues or anyone who does not want to go out at night time to see the fabulous concert items.
Notices about individual class items will come from classroom teachers regarding costume requirements etc.
The cost for entry is $5 per person. Primary school aged children are free.
School Information
School Uniform
It has come to our attention that many students are wearing incorrect uniform to school. The following is taken from our uniform policy:
It is the policy of All Saints Parish School that all children are required to wear a school uniform. The uniform will be serviceable, practical and affordable. The Uniform Policy of All Saints Parish School aims to:
- Maintain and protect an atmosphere of unity, equality and belonging.
- Promote pride in the school and in the individual’s personal dignity.
- Maintain a positive and consistent appearance amongst the children of the school community.
- Enhance school identity in the community.
Staff will be monitoring uniforms more closely at school and giving children a friendly reminder about the correct uniform. If this continues a message will be sent home to families to remind them about wearing the correct uniform. This includes wearing the sports uniform on days when it is not required. There are also a number of children wearing jewellery to school. Appropriate jewellery is listed in the policy below.
Reminder that if your child is out of uniform for any reason we require a note from home to let us know.
If you are having difficulty sourcing uniform items please contact us at school as we may be able to help.

Child Safety & Wellbeing
Child Safety
Child Safe Standards (eleven in total) came into effect in July last year and are a vital part of what we do here at All Saints. But, what do these standards look like in practice? Over the coming months we will look at these standards in closer detail.
Standard 2 - Child safety and wellbeing is embedded in organisational leadership, governance and
culture.
At All Saints we can see this standard in action in a variety of ways. Child safety and Wellbeing is a
standing item on all of our agendas - staff meetings, Leadership team meetings and School Advisory meetings and this newsletter. It is always at the forefront of our mind in everything we do. We have a Child Safety Officer and a Wellbeing Team at school who meet to discuss child safety and wellbeing. Any volunteer or visitor to our school is asked to provide their Working With Children check. There are many more things that we do that relate to this standard, but this is just a snapshot!
More information about these standards can be found here:

Share the Warmth This Winter
Share the Warmth This Winter donations will continue for all of winter so if you can, families still have the chance to donate this term. It has heartwarming to see the generosity from our All Saints families. There is a donation box in the foyer at school for anyone to drop off any food or donations.

Praying With Children
21st Sunday in Ordinary Time 27 August 2023 - Year A
“You are Peter; to you I will give the keys of the kingdom of heaven.”
Something to Think About
The disciple, Peter, who features in today’s gospel, was a fisherman. He had a wife and maybe a
family. Like the other disciples, Peter often found it hard to understand Jesus and his message. In
this story, Jesus calls him 'the rock', suggesting that Peter's faith was strong. But there are
several bible stories about Peter in which his faith lets him down. Peter failed often but he kept
coming back. Peter was fully human, as we are. Yet Peter was the one Jesus chose to lead his
community. We do not have to be perfect to be a disciple or a leader! We just need to hang in
there and stick with Jesus!
The Story
In this gospel story, Jesus is fishing for information - what are people saying about him? Who do they
think he is? The disciples all have a go at answering but it is Peter who comes up with the correct
answer: 'You are the Messiah'.
